iPhone, Medscape Application WebMD Health Corp. has announced the launch of their new medical application, Medscape Mobile. This is believed to be a free iPhone application for physicians, which enables them to achieve the leading medical information in a very convenient mobile format. This information can be easily accessible via their iPhone or iPod touch.

This new application is stated to consist of features like drug database, interaction checker and a directory of pharmacies and physicians. Its directory is believed to consist of about 400,000 physicians, 57,000 pharmacy and around 6,000 hospital listings.

Apart from this, the Medscape application is also known to comprise of the most comprehensive drug database, medical news, continuing medical education and clinical reference tools among others. To be precise, the application includes comprehensive drug information with over 6,000 generics and brands, and a wide variety of supplements and herbals. On the other hand, its drug interaction checker is noted to be capable of quickly checking up to 30 interactions between herbals, supplements and drugs.

Steve Zatz, MD, Executive Vice President, WebMD, says, “Medscape Mobile extends the reach of Medscape’s information and applications from the desktop to the mobile devices that physicians are already using in a variety of clinical settings. Our online physician audience will now have access to Medscape’s comprehensive medical information in their specialty, wherever and whenever they need it”

Through this application, users can also allegedly save news articles for later reference. More so, this is noted to be the only mobile application to include specialty-specific news from the award-winning professional news team of Medscape.

Other than for the users of iPhone and iPod touch, this application may soon also be available for the users of various other mobile platforms, including BlackBerry.
