Energizing Shiva Linga MudraSometimes, a general feeling of tension, listlessness, anxiousness and dissatisfaction tends to fill our day to day lives. We can do away with such unnecessary feelings by performing the ‘Energy Charging Mudra’, which is also known as the Shivlinga mudra.

The right hand in this mudra symbolizes masculine energy, known as Shiva’s phallus. Shiva embodies the destructive and transformative aspect of the highest deity in Indian mythology. Just as the phallus is a symbol of a new beginning, Shiva is the deity who makes this new beginning possible in the first place by destroying something, thereby creating the necessary preconditions. If for example flowers wouldn’t wilt, there will be no fruit.

If the spent cells within are not destroyed, there would be no proliferations. It is the eternal cycle and must function within us on physical and emotional levels. The breath nourishes the reservoir of this energy. That is why optimal quality of breath is so important. The water element has its effect on the outer edges of the hand and palm and the thumb is like an inflow for energy which is absorbed through the lungs.

Technique:
Place your right hand, with the thumb extended upward, on top of your left hand, which is shaped like a bowl. Hold the fingers of your left hand close together. Position your hands at the level of the abdomen, with elbows pointing outwards and slightly forward. Do as often you like, or twice a day minimum for 7-10 minutes.

This mudra can be used to do away with tiredness, dissatisfaction, listlessness, and depression. Or, you can use it when we feel drained due to long periods of tension or strain. This mudra accelerates the healing process as well.
