Philips Electronics India Ltd., with its latest invention, has gained an entry in to the home health care market in India. It has recently launched the Philips Respironics product, that helps in obstructive sleep apnea management and home respiratory care. The introduction of Respironics’ non-invasive ventilation and respiratory monitoring products for hospitals and clinics is said to have fortified Philips’ ‘in-hospital’ position.
Post the global acquisition of Respironics in 2008, India is said to be the first country where the formal launch of Philips Respironics portfolio has taken place. This appears to highlight the company’s focus to create market leadership in emerging high-growth markets like China and India. An annual growth of about 15 percent is estimated in the home health care market in India. By 2013, Philips is believed to be strategizing to gain a market share of about 40 percent in this market.
Mr. Murali Sivaraman, CEO, Philips Electronics India Ltd. says that, “The Philips Respironics product portfolio will significantly drive our growth in healthcare both in the hospital and in the home. A core part of Philips’ healthcare strategy is to take a leadership position in the high-growth sector of home healthcare. Our heritage in understanding how consumers think is combined with our deep clinical knowledge, putting us in a unique position to help address the modern day challenges of healthcare in groundbreaking ways. Today, Philips is present throughout the cycle of care; we are bridging the hospital and home”
Philips Respironics is believed to be a world leader in the treatment of a condition called the Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This condition is characterized by the recurring cessation of breathing during sleep. Across Asia, the occurrence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea is believed to be relatively high in certain parts of the population. An increase in such cases of Obstructive Sleep Apnea is said to occur partly due to a sedentary lifestyle.
Diagnosing and treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea in patients is believed to be of utmost importance. Thus, one of the important objectives of Philips appears to be creating an awareness of this disease among the patients and within the general practitioner fraternity.
It is stated that Philips Respironics has another range which is soon going to be introduced in the Indian market. It’s non-invasive ventilation and home oxygen technologies are believed to soon be introduced, to help the respiratory impaired patient’s at home.
It is stated that the complete range of Philips may initially be introduced in the Indian metros and tier II cities. They will be introduced through a variety of programs like online promotions, road-shows, etc.
